An investigation after a rail passenger was thrown and forced to run several meters across the platform with his hand caught inside the valves of a westbound train. London.
A passenger who was trying to board a service on the Elizabeth line, just before midnight, had his hand caught in the door as he started to leave, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said on December 24.
He was then forced to run the moving train for several meters until a member of railway staff who was working on the platform at Ealing Broadway station turned him away.
The driver was alerted to the nearby passengers and the train stopped after moving about 17 meters. The passenger is reported to have sustained minor injuries, the RAIB confirmed.
The “trap” and drag attack, which took place on November 24 at approximately 12.07am, is the latest incident of a rail passenger having to run into trains with a hand or arm caught in the doors to stations. They were previously held at Enfield Town, North London, in July; Seven Sisters, North London, in June 2022; Bushey, Hertfordshire, in March 2018; and Newcastle Central in 2013.
The RAIB’s investigation will consider factors such as whether the actions of those involved, and how the risks associated with passengers boarding and arriving at Elizabeth Straight should have been handled. It will publish its findings, including any recommendations for improving health.
