This year’s alternative Christmas message on Channel 4 will be a strong appeal from a comedian Christopher McCausland calling for an end to discrimination against the weak.
Earlier in the month McCausland became the first blind man to win Strictly Come Dancing The savior program was disturbedand now it will give another address to Monarch Television, which was first initiated in 1993.
He will say in a speech that people with disabilities are “often some of the smartest, most creative and determined people I’ve ever probably met.”
Let’s start with a metaphorical statement about his love for sharp bits and equality. “I don’t care if they’re cheap or cheap, I don’t care if you’re big or small, whether you’ve got a solid top or a slatted crown.” you are restless
“I will never discriminate against any tyrant, they are all equal to me, and I will not doubt that I will meet the same unworthy end, as long as I try and fit everything in my mouth.”
McCausland will ask that more resources be given to government access to work planning, which helps people with a health condition or disability to return to work. It currently has huge backlog.
According to government statistics, disability employment in the UK was 53% in the second quarter of 2024, compared with 81.6% for non-disabled people.
Referring to the figures, McCausland will say: “Is there a crisis? Come on, I argue this, so let’s try and fix it, shall we? I think the government could commit to something better than what they are already doing.
The comedian, who became a regular face of I’ve Got News for You, told the Guardian after his victory that he found himself a representative of marginalized groups.
“Even though I’m a comedian, I’m – like it or not – a representative of another group of people who are blind, people with disabilities and who are underrepresented.” he said.
