WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson’s promoter Eddie Hearn claims they made a “seven figure” offer to Raymond Muratala but wanted $3 million to fight him on February 22.
So instead of using Muratala (22-0, 17 KOs) in the WBC’s No. 2 spot, Hearn signed Floyd Schofield to face Shakur on a season-long card in Riyadh on Feb. 22.
The boxing public is unhappy with the choice, believing that the 22-year-old Schofield has no chance against Shakur. It’s another example of New Jersey native Stevenson picking an opponent to avoid a loss and keep his hopes alive for a mega-money payout against Gervonta Davis in 2025.
