A Christmas classic on the advent calendar of movies you can watch in winter, The Holiday is returning to our screens – and with its honey-stone houses, exposed beams and freestanding baths, there’s often a desire to cozy up in The British the village.
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet star in love, along with Jude Law and Jack Black Nancy Meyers the film follows a transcontinental – and broken – home swap between rural England and Hollywood.
The festive feel-good film has been a firm favorite since its debut in 2006 after crews sent cameras rolling across snow-covered Surrey, Cotswolds and sunny south California.

Holmbury St Mary, Surrey

Unfortunately, Iris’ Rosehill Cottage is not a real home. However, although the interior scenes were shot at Sony Pictures Studios and the stone walls were built on a London soundstage – real estate inspired the set.
Honeysuckle Cottage in Holmbury St Mary – complete with honeysuckle, chimney and wooden front gate – is a traditional hole-in-the-wall behind the design. The property was previously listed on Airbnb in December 2022 for superfans to stay in a replica of Iris’s house, but it has since been removed.
Godalming, Surrey

After arriving at Iris’s cottage, Amanda buys the essentials – wine, spaghetti and sourdough – at a local shop in the market town of Godalming in a red Mini Cooper.
This chocolate slice of Surrey countryside is located 30 miles south-west of central London and is the backdrop for several scenes of Amanda finding her feet in rural England.
Shere, Surrey

The quintessentially English village of Shere sets the stage for many charming landscape shots throughout the film. Amanda runs across the footbridge over the Tillingbourne Stream and finds herself at Shere’s country pub, The White Horse, where the haggard Californian and Graham are enjoying a drink together.
The Grade II listed market dates back to 1425, is said to have been a former smuggler’s tavern in the 17th century and is still open for The Holiday lovers to enjoy traditional British dishes by the fire.
Wonersh, Surrey

Cameras rolled to Wonersh to capture the exterior of Graham’s holiday family home in the real estate, Mill House.
Wonersh, a civil parish in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is considered one of the wealthiest postcodes in Britain.
Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

Amanda and Graham take their lunch to the luxury wedding venue Cornwell Manor in the Cotswolds. The 2,000 acre private estate near Chipping Norton is unfortunately not open to the public but can be hired exclusively for weddings and events between June and September.

San Marino, California

Exterior scenes of Amanda’s 10,324-square-foot Tuscan-style California mansion were filmed at 1883 Orlando Road in San Marino.
Built in 1928 by legendary architect Wallace Neff, the rustic seven-bed, seven-bathroom property has an estimated market value of $11m (£8.6m). As for the interior scenes, they were shot at Sony Studios.
Brentwood, California

Screenwriter Arthur Abbot’s glamorous old Hollywood home is located at 163 Rockingham Avenue in Brentwood, California—a good few hours away from Amanda’s “neighbor” in San Marino.
The mansion, built in 1914, was previously owned by American actress and comedian Phyllis Diller and, according to Zillow, sold for $9.35m (£7.3m) after her death in 2012.
