Ryan Garcia suffered a wrist injury while preparing for an exhibition bout against Rukia Anpo on December 30, forcing the bout to be postponed. The event promoted by FANMIO and RIZIN will get a new date in the first half of 2025.
Dr. Steven Shin of Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles confirmed Garcia’s wrist injury. He will need a few weeks off sparring before returning to action and continuing his preparations for an eight-round exhibition against Anpo.
Ryan is using his matchup against the lanky 6’0″ Anpo to stay sharp and continue to earn money while serving a one-year suspension handed down by the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance earlier this year.
The suspension came at the worst possible time for Garcia, 26, preventing him from capitalizing on a career-best 12-round majority decision win over Devin Haney on April 20 in Brooklyn, New York.
“I have been eagerly preparing for the upcoming exhibition fight in Japan, training hard in Dallas for the past few weeks,” said Ryan Garcia. “Unfortunately, I injured my arm during training and returned to Los Angeles to be examined by a doctor, who advised me to postpone the show until December 30th.
