Nicola Coughlan shared her mother’s less than enthusiastic reaction to her sex scenes Bridgerton.
In the latest series of the Regency era Netflix hit, Coughlan’s character Penelope Featherington shared a love affair with Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton.
Speaking of the latest episode The Graham Norton ShowCoughlan, 37, who rose to fame playing a teenager in Derry Girlshe said: “I realized I was 35 years old when I filmed the season and I had never played an adult. I thought, ‘How do I do this?'”
She added: “The first two [Bridgerton] series, I looked a lot like SpongeBob SquarePants, very curly, ginger [hair]yellow dress, some kind of situation with the tent.
“But then it was weird to have to play the romantic lead and… it’s a sexy show. There’s a lot of sexy stuff going on in it, and then I realized I’m going to have to do sexy stuff and I said, ‘Right.'”
Coughlan said of her mother’s reaction: “My mother was so angry with me about those scenes – like it was my fault, so I didn’t go to the screening with her.”
The actor previously spoke about how “empowering” it was to do the scenes, saying Stylist: “There is one scene where I am very naked in front of the camera, and that was my idea, my choice. I felt like the biggest ‘fucker’ with all the talk about my body. It was incredibly empowering.
“I felt beautiful in the moment and I thought, ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back at this and remember how fucking hot I looked!’
Coughlan went viral for her reaction to one fan, who said she was “very brave” to strip on camera.

“You know, it’s hard, because I think women with my body type, women with perfect breasts… We don’t see enough of that on screen,” she said at the screening.
She added: “I’m a proud member of the perfect breast community and I hope you enjoy looking at them.”
