Richardson Hitchins says he would like to defend his first IBF light heavyweight title against Devin Hani. Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) feels that a fight between him and Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) would be a big hit at the PPV because of the people involved and his father, Bill Haney, who talks a lot of trash to get got interested boxing fans.
Last Saturday, Hitchins dethroned IBF 140-pound champion Liam Parro (25-1, 15 KOs), defeating him by split decision over 12 rounds on December 7 at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The Callout
Hitchins says Hannay has told him in the past that he would fight him if he got his hands on the world title. Now that he has the belt, he wants Haney to confirm what he said. However, Deva’s dad, Bill, revealed today that she will be taking a year off and won’t be back in action for a while. He says Devin wants to rest.
It’s already been seven months since his 12-round majority decision loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20, and it’s believed he’ll sit and wait until his only suspension expires before fighting him. Hannay isn’t taking any chances by staying busy and potentially getting beat up. That would spoil things for him in terms of a rematch with Garcia.
Hitchins will have to look the other way because Hannay will NOT fight him. If he can get a washed up George Kamboos it wouldn’t be a bad fight. Little “The Emperor” hasn’t been able to do anything since his upset win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021 and is considered a one-hit wonder. However, he can still talk about his struggles and his Australian fans still follow him.
“I like Devin Haney. I think it would be a great PPV fight. I think the numbers would be good because there would be so many people involved,” said Richardson Hitchins Fighthippe about wanting to fight Devin Hani next.
“I talk a lot of shit, and Devin’s dad (Bill Haney) talks a lot of shit. I feel like I’m a better fighter. Before I became champion, Devin told me, ‘Get the belt first, then we can fight.’ Well, now I have a belt. Why not fight the world champion? If he’s going to stay at 140, why not fight me?
“Let’s make a big fight.” However, with a business note. That fight would make more sense in another fight or two, but I have to do it now. I want it to be as big as possible. I am already a world champion, and he has felt success at the highest level when it comes to sports.
“Now that I’m a world champion, I have something to bring to the table in a fight for a fight. If it wasn’t for that, a unification with (WBA light heavyweight champion Jose) Rayo (Valenzuela), Teofimo or any other champion would be a big fight.
“George Kambossos is a big name and someone who talks shit.” We will sell the fight. If they can make it happen, it is what it is,” Hitchins said.
