Bill Haney says Devin will take a full year to rest his body and work on blocking his left hook before returning to the ring in 2025. Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has been out of the ring for seven months since his loss to Ryan Garcia on April 20 and seems shaken by that defeat.

Former two-division world champion Hani’s decision to take a year-long break means he will wait until Kingry’s one-year suspension expires in April 2025 before fighting again. Devin’s decision to sit and burn on his loss for an entire year until Ryan is available isn’t exactly brave, but there’s just too much money at stake to put him at risk.
However, this is an expected move as it is too risky for Hannay to fight someone and potentially lose. A win would kill a potential big rematch for Devin against Garcia. So it’s smart for Hannay to sit back and wait for Ryan, because whoever he faces would be swinging for the fence, looking to take advantage of Dev’s vulnerable chin.
That Hanei is one of Robber barons of the Gilded Age like JP Morgan, John D. Rockefeller or Cornelius Vanderbilt, he would NOT sit for a year without being as busy as possible, using his popularity to make millions by fighting the top guys. Haney is not ruthless like super-rich robber barons and lacks the guts and ambition to get every last penny he can by keeping himself as busy as possible.
Playing it safe?
“All fights are options. I believe in Devin, and I believe in his skills. I also believe in doing things right. I believe that the first time he is compensated for the position he is in and that he has the right job structure. It’s more about the structure of the contract than anything else,” Bill Haney told Tru Media, referring to his son, Devin Haney.
“One thing we can do is let him rest his body. He is a young guy. He traveled, fought, and worked. There was a lot that went into the (Ryan Garcia) fight,” Beal said of Haney.
“He’s the one who said he’s going to take a year off, and I support his plan 100%.” If he said he wanted to come back in four months, I would support that too. He said he wanted to take a year off. He didn’t say he was retiring. That year we get a chance to see everyone else.
“We can be fans. We can follow sports. One thing I said is that they still want to see us. I appreciate you wanting to see us and following me, bro,” Bill Haney said.
