Outgoing Republican Senate leader and polio survivor Mitch McConnell condemned Friday Robert F. Kennedy Jr Lawyers’ “Dangerous” Efforts to Kill Polio Vaccine.
Lawyer Aaron Siri 2022 filed a petition the Food and Drug Administration to withdraw its approval of several critical childhood vaccines, including polio vaccine. News of Syria’s action comes just weeks after President-elect Donald Trump nominated RFK Jr. to be secretary of Health and Human Services. Siri currently helps Kennedy’s veterinary officers serve in the department.
Kennedy is known for his extreme anti-vaccine views that are widely derided by the mainstream medical community. Sira’s petition claims the vaccine has not been properly tested to ensure it is safe, despite decades of use protecting millions of children from contracting the disease.
“The polio vaccine has saved millions of lives and promised to eradicate a terrible disease,” McConnell said in a statement after Sarah’s action. “Efforts to undermine public confidence in proven drugs are not only ill-informed — they are dangerous.”
McConnell contracted polio as a child and has battled paralysis caused by the often fatal disease. To this day, he still struggles with stiffness in his legs.
“Like millions of families before them, my parents knew the pain and fear of watching their child struggle with a life-changing diagnosis of polio,” McConnell said in statement.
“Since the second year, a normal life without paralysis was possible for me only thanks to the miraculous combination of modern medicine and maternal love. But for the millions who came after me, the real miracle was the life-saving power of the polio vaccine.”
Neither Siri nor RFK Jr. they did not immediately respond to McConnell’s attack.
