Promoter Frank Warren reportedly sees an Alexander Usyk vs. Tyson Fury trilogy happening ahead of the Fury vs. Anthony Joshua clash, provided the Gypsy King wins on December 21.
Warren said talkSport to expect the Usyk-Fury trilogy to happen before Fury faces Joshua. It would make sense for Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) to fight Usyk immediately in the trilogy if he wins the rematch on Dec. 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, Fury will likely lose that fight.
Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) had Fury’s number in their previous fight on May 18 and was just one punch away from a ninth-round knockout. Fury’s recent physical appearance suggests he is not at his best, as he believes he can fight his way to victory in the rematch on December 21.
If Usyk beats Fury again, it will be bad for Gypsy King, and he may have to start thinking about retirement. If His Excellency Turki Alalshik is still interested in a Fury-Joshua fight, it will be a tough sell without Tyson redeeming himself against a world rival.
Joshua, 35, was destroyed by Daniel Dubois in a fifth-round knockout on Sept. 21 and looked awful in that fight.
