Parole denied for killer of Boston nightclub bouncer after prison fight cover-up

A man who killed a rebound at a disco in Boston almost 20 years ago will remain behind the bars after he covered a prison struggle.

Oscar Rosa, 35, was sentenced in February 2008 to stab Fatally Craig Viera, 32, and was sentenced to life in prison. Wednesday marked the second time Rosa has been refused to be parole after an initial attempt In 2022.

On November 26, 2006, Rosa, who was 20 at the time, had been at the Embassy nightclub, now known as the Fenway Blues House, with his friends. The group denied the entrance to a restricted area of the club due to their age and were asked to leave after some members would begin to “act immature” on the dance floor.

Rosa was a drink and was physically slowed by security officers when she was removed from the club. Viera tried to escalate the situation, and it was when Rosa stabbed him in the abdomen and left the scene.

Viera was taken to the hospital, and although he was allowed to return home in the following days, he died on December 6, 2006 from his injuries.

Rosa told the Board of Paroles in 2022 that she was angry and violent at the time of killing Viera, and said that this was due to her education in a racist and abuse of her father.

The members of the Board said at the time that Rosa had obtained multiple disciplinary reports during his imprisonment, including having homemade alcohol and assaulting another inmate in 2019. Rosa has no mental health complications, but he has some intellectual disabilities that members of the Council have taken into account.

Although Rosa has since participated in the rehabilitation program, the Council decided on Wednesday against probation because she still struggles with a misuse of substances, disciplinary reports and had hidden a prison struggle.

Rosa’s mother and cousin appeared in support of Rosa’s probation, while Viera’s mother, two friends and the Suffolk district district prosecutor’s office were in opposition.
