Two dogs dead following West Springfield fire



Officials are still investigating the cause of a West Springfield house fire Tuesday night that killed two dogs.

The West Springfield Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Elm St. around 6 in the afternoon. First responders found “heavy fire coming from the rear windows of the second floor,” according to the department. post on social networks.

Photos of the aftermath showed melted siding and blackened walls above second-story windows.

“The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage to the upper floors,” the department’s release said. “No injuries to report, although two dogs did not survive.”

The West Springfield Fire Department and state police members assigned to the state Fire Department are investigating the incident, the release said.

A Fire Department spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment.
