Dear Eric: Can you offer some advice on a good friend who let your dog jump in my pool?
I have a vinyl lining pool at the entrance, so a concern is that the dog can damage the coating with nails or teeth. And my friend does not have the funds to replace the coating if it were damaged or probably would be offered.
His dog chewed one of my pools that cost $ 200 and never replaced.
In addition, when the dog is in the pool, it comes down slightly and tries to jump on me and bite. And when it comes out of the pool, I travel through my gardens and excavations. It seems that it is not an idea: no dog in the pool. But my friend thinks he is hysterical and he is a good friend who does not want to hurt his feelings.
She and her husband are those people who think that her dog is the best in the world and why would no one love her dog? I know you should only say any dog, but a precedent has been established and it has already been asked when the pool opens.
– No Paddling doggy
Dear Paddling: Your pool, your rules. The start of a new pool season is a good opportunity to set a new precedent. You can cite the float of the chewing pool; You can cite the jump and the bite; You can simply say that it is no longer something that is comfortable.
But, as would be the case with any human in your pool, you have the right and responsibility to determine what is safe and comfortable.
You have this conversation in advance. And do not put it in the debate. “I love your dog but I don’t want to have dogs in the pool or in my garden. I am worried about vinyl line and I would like to keep the gardens intact. I love to go with you and hope you understand.”
You can now receive this while banning the dog, but this is not the case. This is to communicate what you need to feel safe and to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone else. If she pushes back, return to put her at this point.
