The New England Patriots they have many needs to fill this off season. So why not get the rare player who can play both sides of the ball at an elite level at 2025 NFL Draft?
That was the argument he made ESPN’s Field Yates in his most recent mock draft. In his projection that went up on WednesdayYates had the Patriots take on Colorado Travis Hunterwhom he calls “the most electric player in the class and the best prospect on my board.”
Hunter is a unique prospect. Currently the favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy, Hunter plays full-time at cornerback and receiver for the Buffaloes, both at an elite level.

Here’s Yates’ full analysis of the selection:
“The most electric player in the class and the top prospect on my board, Hunter offers the ability to make a difference on both sides of the ball. He has rare acceleration and high-end game traits as a receiver, but I also see the skills of blocking coverage, including elite ball skills and instincts, as a cornerback. Consider that not only is he sixth in receiving yards (1,152) and second in TD catches (14), but also has four interceptions and 10 pass breakups on defense.
“The Patriots have a significant need at left tackle, so targeting someone like Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr. is at least a conversation. But given the holes at both receiver and cornerback in front of Christian Gonzalez, Hunter is too good to let it happen.
As Yates points out, the Patriots need help on the offensive line. However, there are several ways to approach him, whether it be via trade or free agency.
However, this screening presented an attractive scenario. Yates had quarterbacks coming off the board with the first two picks. As a result, their No. 1 prospect was left ripe for selection at No. 3.
Tackle remains an option for New England. Top prospects this year include Texas’ Kelvin Banks and LSU’s Will Campbell.
