Uncasville, Con. (AP) -Angel Reese had his first double triple, Hailey van Lith led a dominant performance on the Chicago bench with a maximum of 16 career points and the sky turned away from the Sun of Connecticut to obtain a victory of 78-66 Sunday.
Fed by the 11 Reese assists, more than double his previous career, Chicago put five players in double figures. The Sky Bank passed the Sun 36-2 reserves in the Commissioner’s Cup match.
Reese also had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Chicago (3-7). Kia Nurse had 11 points in the 4 of 4 with three 3s, and Kamilla Cardoso and Ariel Atkins had 10 points. The Rachel Banham Reservation made his 300th race in three points.
Marina Mabrey scored 22 points with five 3s for the sun (2-8). Tina Charles added 19 points and Jacy Sheldon had 12.
Both teams shot 40% and made six points in the first half, but the sky was perfect in eight free throws to get a 38-36 advantage. Mabrey was the only player in double figures with 16.
Charles’s 3 and two free launches gave Connecticut a 47-44 lead in the second half, but Michaela Onyenwere and Reese turned the three-point plays to get 51-48. The sky led 59-54 in the fourth quarter.
