To what degree is Mike Vrabel driven by analytics? Patriots coach offers his take

Foxborough: Some coaches are great in analytics. They trust the data a lot.

Others, not so much. Or they will use analytics as a partial guide.

Where it does Mike Vrabel fall on the spectrum? Is it with the multitude of use-it-to-ton, or with the group that uses it from time to time?

With the sound, the coach of Patriot uses it as a guide, but it is not his entire end in decision -making.

“We want to use technology to the maximum of our capacity and what we can do to help us more efficient, to help us make better decisions, informed decisions,” said Vrabel on Monday during its media availability. “I do not think you can trust and base -in all the decisions of the numbers, but I also think that they are important to ask questions and be able to track and reach a good decision on everything we do. The staff, coaching decisions, health and safety of players, strength and conditioning, all aspects of our program.”

Vrabel said he always seeks to improve and that analytics plays a role in this purpose. But in the big image, it is more than a consulting tool.

“Hopefully we have some antecedents and analytical data that we can trust that they can ask questions,” he said. “When we look at training, self-excavations and the opponent, how we become more efficient with this system.”
