A non -profit chain of grocery stores with the aim of facing food insecurity in the Boston area will close the four locations this month.
Daily Table, who opened his first store in Dorchester in 2015, told his website on Friday that he would close the doors “in the coming days”.
The chain also operates shops in Roxbury, Cambridge and Salem Central Square.
“This was not an easy decision,” the Daily Table Board wrote in a Bloc publication. “For the last ten years, we have been honored to serve neighborhoods throughout the Boston, working next to our community to make affordable and nutritious foods accessible to all.”
The daily table provided high quality healthy foods at low prices to help households, in particular those that use SNAP benefits, access fresh produce, prepared foods and other basic groceries, depending on their website.
The members of the Council wrote in the announcement of the closure that the daily table had faced challenges from Covid-19 Pandemic, including “historically high levels of food prices” and uncertainty about future funding due to federal government cuts.
“We understand that this comes at a time when other food resources and organizations are at risk, which makes this news even more difficult to share,” they wrote. “We hope that those who have been generous with the daily table will continue to invest in other organizations to meet the continuous need.”
According to the blog publication, Daily Table served more than 3 million customers during the decade that their stores were open, providing more than $ 16 million in community savings.
According to the website, the locations of Boston and Salem de la Cadena closed their doors over the weekend. The Cambridge Store will remain open on Monday with all discount shares.
