A suspect has been arrested in relation to a shootout at the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, California, on Friday afternoon that he left wounded two people.
The shooting took place at 15:40 hours of the Pacific on the school campus, which is located on the 8900 block of the Boulevard of Aviation, according to the Police Department of Inglewood. Inglewood is part of the metropolitan area of Los Angeles.
Firefighters found two victims suffering from injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Brigade. Both were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.
It is believed that the victims were female employees of the school, the mayor of Inglewood, James T. Butts, told CBS News in Los Angeles.
He said that the alleged gunman was seen to carry a safety uniform as the shot took place. Police did a thorough search on the campus and no suspect was found, but they were able to determine their identity and the car they were driving.
Shortly after 6pm, Butts reported that a suspect was arrested. He later identified that the man was Jesse Rodriguez, 40.
“I understand that the suspect was a former college employee,” Butes said.
The male suspect was near Berendo and twelve streets in Pico-Union after emergency offices received a 911 call about the shooting that led them to this location, according to police.
Police said the suspect’s family made the 911 call to report that he had shot two women. They told the officers that the gun he used was in the back seat of his car, where he was located and taken in preventive detention without further incidents, according to police.
Dozens of people, who are believed to be personal and students, were seen on the street outside the school as the preliminary research began. There was also a large police presence, many of which could be seen with tactical teams.
Firefighters in the county of the county initially reported that there were three victims of shooting, but later clarified that the number became more apparent.
