Awards season got off to a successful start for Selena Gomez, who on Monday received Golden Globe nominations for his performances both in the big and the small.
Gomez, a two-time Golden Globe nominee, won awards this year in the categories of Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series and Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut announced the nominees in a televised presentation Monday morning at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.
The best actress nomination went to Gomez for her role in the Hulu mystery series “Only Murders in the Building,” which she renewed for a fourth series in August after earning praise for her work in their previous seasons. Gomez’s last two Globe nominations were in the same category for “Only Murders.” His fellow protagonists, Steve Martin i Martin Shorthave received equivalent awards in the Best Actor category every year since the show was eligible for consideration at the awards ceremony.
For best supporting actress, Gomez was nominated for “Emilia Pérez,” French director Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical thriller about a Mexican cartel boss who undergoes gender-affirmation surgery. Gomez starred in the film alongside Zoe Saldanawhose performance also earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
Gomez praised Saldaña in a social media post reacting to the nominations.
“I don’t even know what to write… I’m so proud of @zoesaldana and so grateful and honored to @goldenglobes,” she captioned a video on her Instagram Stories, which captured the moment Gomez heard his name. in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
“Emilia Pérez” led Monday’s Golden Globe nominations with 10 nominations in total, in multiple acting categories, plus direction, screenplay and music. (Karla Sofía Gascón, who plays the title character, was also nominated.) “Only Murders” is also a top contender, with four nominations that tie the show for second among TV contestants. It is tied with “Shōgun” and only behind “The Bear”.
Gomez called out Gascón in another Instagram post, along with French composers Clément Ducol and Camille, who worked on “Emilia Pérez” and received Golden Globe nominations for best original song and score.
“@karsiagascon mi amor I’m so proud and grateful to meet you!” Gomez wrote, before congratulating Audiard, Ducol and Camille.
Nominating an actor in two categories for his work on multiple projects at an awards show is rare, but it’s happened at the Golden Globes before. Over the past decade, Amy Adams, Regina King and Alicia Vikander are just a few of the celebrities who have competed in double Globes races in a single year. Among the 2025 group of nominees, Gomez and Sebastian Stan were the only actors recognized in multiple acting categories for multiple roles.
Stan, of “Pam & Tommy” fame, was nominated in the categories of best actor in a motion picture musical or comedy, as well as drama. He received acclaim for his lead roles in the dark comedy “A Different Man” and the controversial biopic “The Apprentice,” where he played a young Donald Trump.
