The “American Idol” contestant, John Foster, brought his song chops and some tears to his guitar, to his performance in the episode of the Sunday night singing competition.
While playing a place in the Top 14, the 18 -year -old Louisian artist sang an original melody called “Tell That Angel and Love Her”, who wrote for his late friend, Maggie Dunn. The song included abstaining abandonment: “Although we may not know the reason / is not for us to understand / sir, you will not tell the angel that I love it / as soon as you can?”
At the end of the performance, Foster said “I love you, maggie” with tears in the eyes. Speaking with the host “Idol”, Ryan Seacrest, Foster shared that Dunn and another friend, Caroline Gill, died in December 2022.
Foster said that Dunn’s mother and her friend were in the audience, calling them “the strongest women I know.”
“Idol” judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan applauded Foster’s original work and sincere delivery.
“I love to keep it very traditional,” said Underwood, pointing to his oldest approach to country music. “I feel who you are. I love that in this song, we have to feel a sweet and tender side of your voice that honestly did not know you had.”
“You have been a joker for me for all the time, but what you just did there eliminated me all the doubts you deserve to be here,” Bryan added.
“Idol” viewers will determine if Foster advances to the top 14, as they vote through the text, the “American Idol” application and the “American Idol” website. The voting closes on Monday, April 21 at 9 am.
