Saturday Night Live baked “poor little” Matt Gaetz and Hunter Biden in his cold open sketch while two people affected by the scandals visited the Church Lady after “the most satanic year in history”.
The skit “Church Chat 2.0,” which aired on December 7, is welcome back Dana Carvey‘s character, church ladyan elderly woman devoted to her faith who interviews various celebrities.
In the skit, Church Lady labeled 2024 as “the most satanic year in history” before calling former MAGA MP Gaetz, played by Sarah Sherman, on stage.
The Republican from Florida was nominated by the newly elected president Donald Trump to serve as state attorney, but days later, removed himself from consideration amid intense scrutiny of the House Ethics Committee’s investigation into allegations of misconduct, including allegations that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime.
The House committee was set to release a bombshell report of its findings two days after Trump wiretapped Gaetz, but Gaetz’s nomination led him to resign from the Houseeffectively ending the probe.
this week, House Republicans rejected two attempts by Democrats force the committee to publish the report.
Sherman and Carvey were quick to joke about the situation.
“You were involved in some little sexual peccadilloes, and they wrote a whole report about it, but somehow we didn’t see it, did we? Isn’t that convenient,” joked Mrs. Carvey’s Church.
“Poor little Matt Gaetz, you better repent Matt, only 17 days until Christmas,” added Carvey.
“You had me at 17,” said Sherman’s Gaetz — a reference to the age of the girl at the center of the allegations against him.
Next to see Church Lady was David Spade who played President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.
Biden announced last week that he did pardoned his son for “criminal offenses against the United States that he committed or may have committed or in which he participated between January 1, 2014 and December 1, 2024.This comes after Hunter was convicted three federal weapons charges related to the purchase of firearms in 2018. Three months later he declared that he was nine federal taxes.
“I’ve been singled out just because I am,” Spade’s Hunter Church Lady complained of her situation.
“Like Trump, they went after me because of my last name and all the illegal things I’ve done.”
He continued: “I’ve been through a lot, but my dad loves me unconditionally, and that’s the greatest gift of all. Also to anyone who has seen any of those laptop photosjust remember the camera takes two inches off.”
The skit ended with a song performed by Church Lady, Gaetz, Hunter and others.
“Will Christmas be about Jesus? No one knows,” sang the cast.
“Or will it be about Santa hanging around with ‘ho, ho, hos’?” Satan had a good year.”
