Britain’s Katy Marchant needed hospital treatment after a horrific accident in hospital UCI Follow the Champions League at London caused the organizers to suspend the event.
Olympic champion Marchant suffered a broken forearm after colliding with him Germany‘s Alessa-Catrione Propster in the first round of the keirin. Both drivers were ejected into the crowd at the top of the embankment, and several spectators were also injured in the incident.
British Cycling said in a statement: “We can confirm that two riders and four spectators have received medical treatment following an incident during tonight’s UCI Champions League track at Lee Valley VeloPark in London.
“The incident happened during the women’s keirin race. Doctors responded immediately, and one driver was taken to the hospital.
“WBD Sports, British Cycling, Lee Valley VeloPark and the Union Cycliste Internationale have unanimously decided to suspend all further racing for the evening and wish to extend their best wishes for a speedy recovery to both riders and all spectators affected.
“We also want to thank the medical staff for their quick response and constant support.
“We are working closely with all parties to review the incident before taking appropriate action. There will be no further comment at this time.”

In the final round of the Champions League on the track, Marchant was carried off the velodrome and taken to hospital after receiving half an hour of on-site treatment.
Marchant won team gold in the sprint alongside Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane at the Paris Olympics over the summer and the same trio won gold again in the same event at the World Championships in Denmark in October.
