“Each game against these boys is tight,” said Steve Konowalchuk, Thunderbirds coach. “It was a big night for everyone, which was added to the environment and another good game of hockey against Providence.
“It was fun to be part.”
Springfield went down, but did not go out to start the contest. And this remained essential, as Matthew Peca recorded his 26th goal of his second intermission to help the Thunderbirds (29-20-2-4) to win their seventh victory in 11 games.
After Lehigh Valley’s previous defeat against Charlotte, Springfield (64 points) jumped the phantoms (63 points) for fifth place in Atlantic division.
And behind the third consecutive victory of the Thunderbirds against Providence, now the same checkrs (68 points) travels by four points with 17 games of the regular season.
Despite 18 savings by Netontder Brandon Bussi, the Bruins (32-18-4-2) suffered their fourth loss in 11 games. Providence, however, is linked to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for second place in the division with 70 points.
Ellis remained sharp during the regulatory opening minutes, as Providence recorded five of the six combined attempts against Springfield.
The 24 -year -old remained played when he kept the game without score. But it was not easy, as the Bruins gained multiple attempts to disassociate. And none was more drastic than when Trevor Kuntar escaped closely to his solitary defender when approaching the opposite network.
The impulse was reduced, however, when Ellis made one of his 11 rooms in the first period against Kuntar’s wrist attempt with 12:14 that was in the first period.
“It was fine tonight and made solid savings,” Konowalchuk said. “It’s good to have it by our side. I thought we were able to remove some sticks and help it outside sometimes. “”
Despite these efforts, both teams entered the first intermission at a dead point. Providence, however, at Springfield eight to 20 minutes of action.
Bruins did not relieve their pressure in the second period as they kept control. The road team was rewarded for its perseverance, as Tristan Ashbrook got a loose one behind the opposite network and then connected with Joey Abate along the left wing.
Although Ellis saved initial, Abate countered the rebound to advance providence through 23 minutes of action. The goal set a fourth place on Abate, while Ashbrook won its fifth attendance.
Springfield did not go for a long time, as they won the first game power attempt at the game once was called to Ashbrook.
Nikita Alexandrov, five seconds from La Pena, Nikita Alexandrov located Samuel Johannesson Sol under the blue line with a later pass.
Johannesson did not miss this opportunity, as the defender guided a wrist through traffic to help Thunderbirds even the score 1-1 with 12:17 left on the Marc.
“It was great because these games are so tight,” Konowalchuk said. “It was a good night of special teams. Sometimes we would like to get some more features. But it seems easy from the bench or up.
“We have some smart hockey players and we thought we had a good time in the area or in the second period.”
The goal set the fifth of Johannesson’s season, while Matthew Peca and Alexandrov won their respective 24 and 19th attendance.
Springfield finished 1 by 2 in the power game, while Providence went 0 to 2.
But the fun was not complete as Springfield won another marker opportunity for the last seconds of the second. After a brief gift, AlekSanteri Kaskimäki located Peca along the right post.
And since Bussi was out of position, Peca secured the past and then sent a wrist at hand at his 25th season’s goal to ensure that the Thunderbirds advanced 2-1, as both teams entered the second intermission.
“Kaskimäki played a good game and managed shit well,” Konowalchuk said. “It was an elite passage where he turned around and acted as if he were shooting. Instead he found that Peca returned.
“And this was also good hands of Paca to handle this hard pass. It was a great goal with about a second one that was there. “”
Hunter Skinner won its eleventh high school attendance, while Kaskimäki recorded its 22nd place.
About half of the final period, Providence won a leading marker opportunity when they surrounded Ellis. But as a failed shot attempt was released on the goal line, Mackenzie Maceaacher made an impressive stick stick to prevent the game from almost tied.
“It was a huge move,” Konowalchuk said. “Our boys defend when we have to defend ourselves. And they are proud. Players know when keeping the game outside. And when they have possession, they give sticks and bodies and do not give a clean appearance to the opposition. “
Despite another late rise in the opposition, Thunderbirds came out victorious.
“I think even until the last two seconds here, we had three or four boys who had their body out of the shot lane,” Konowalchuk said. “And this is very nice as a coach to see your players work so hard.”
Springfield will now support a two -game road trip planned to start from Bridgeport inside the total mortgage scope on Sunday at 3 pm
