Orono, Maine-the 20 University of Massachusetts Hockey University maintained a 1-0 lead in the first, but two goals from the second period helped lift the number 6/7 Maine ahead of the Minutemen, 3-2 the Sunday in Alfond Arena. Loss leaves Umass at 14-11-2 in general, 5-8-2 in east hockey, while black bears improve up to 17-5-3 and 9-3-3 in action of the League.
“Well, I thought we played for about 50 minutes,” said Greg Carvel, the main coach of Umass. “Unfortunately, we didn’t have a big start, but we found a way to close it. We played on the road with a team of first five places, but we could have been, we must have been better.
The Black Bears started the contest with a heavy advantage and advantage in possession, Umass managed to climb to the board first. The Black Bears ended the contest with a 31-26 advantage. Umass was 0 by 3 at the Power Play and Maine 0 by 5.
Hrabal ended with 28 savings for the Minutemen and Albin Boija stopped 24 for black bears.
Umass will perform again on Friday, February 7, when the squad travels to the number 13/12 UCONN for a match of 16:00 in Storrs, Conn.
