Before the start of his trial for domestic violencePatriots safety Jabrill Peppers pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drug possession for cocaine found in his wallet the night of his arrest.
Peppers entered the plea before a jury was selected in his trial in Quincy District Court. Judge Mark Coven continued the case without a conclusion for four months.
While Peppers is on probation, he must remain drug-free and submit to drug screens through the NFL’s substance abuse program.
Marc Alan Brofsky, an attorney for the Peppers, said his client entered the NFL program in October, after his arrest, and was randomly tested up to 10 times a month. Peppers was released from the program in December.
Peppers faces additional charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation or suffocation and assault and battery on a household member. They are all crimes.
A captain of the Patriots until he returned of a suspension related to his arrest, Peppers is accused of slamming a woman’s head into a wall and throwing her down a flight of stairs. Peppers’ attorney has claimed the videos prove the incident never happened.
Peppers’ trial on domestic violence charges is set to begin Thursday.
