With his full contract coordinatorMike Vrabel now moves on to fill out the remainder of 2025 patriots technical staff
according to The Athleticone coach joining Vrabel is New York Jets running backs coach Tony Dews.
Before joining the Jets, Dews spent the previous six seasons with Vrabel in Tennessee. He was the lead running backs coach for the Titans head coach from 2018 to 2022. In 2023, Dews coached the tight ends for the Titans.
He will now be the Patriots’ third running backs coach in the previous three seasons. Dews replaces Taylor Embree, who came to the Patriots last season after coaching the Jets in 2022.
Dews is a veteran coach who has worked on both sides of the ball.
A tight end for Liberty University, he coached in college from 1998 to 2017. Dews worked at Millersville, West Virginia, Calif. (PA), Holy Cross, Central Michigan, UNLV, West Virginia, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and West Virginia. He coached offensive line, defensive line, special teams, linebackers, tight ends, wide receivers and running backs in college.
Dews entered the NFL in 2018 when Vrabel hired him as the Titans’ running backs coach. He worked with Derrick Henry, who led the NFL in rushing in 2019 with 1,540 yards and tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns. In 2023, Dews coached the Titans’ tight ends. That year, Chigoziem Okonkwo finished with a career-best 54 receptions for 528 yards.
Last year, he coached a Jets running back that included Breece Hall (876 yards rushing with five touchdowns).
