Dillian Whyte says he is ready to fight Anthony Joshua in the summer clash at Wembley Stadium. The 36-year-old White (31-3, 21 KOs) believes that a rematch against Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) would be “perfect” fight for him.
The Bottom Barrell
Joshua, 35, was destroyed by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in five rounds in his last fight on September 21. AJ needs a win, but he really would scraping mud at the bottom of the barrel if he chose the British journeyman White as his opponent. The British public would probably be happy to buy Joshua vs Wyatt 2 on PPV, but the rest of the world would be disgusted by this abomination.
From Dilian’s point of view, you can understand why he is so desperate to fight Joshua again. He would get millions for the rematch, and the money would make his retirement comfortable.
White is already rich, with a fortune estimated at 7 million dollarsaccording to Celebrity Net Worth. A rematch with Joshua would likely increase that to $10 million. Not bad for a career contender who has never won a world title.
Considering how excited the promoter is Eddie Hearn when it comes to the domestic fallout between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, he is likely to entertain the idea of matching Joshua vs. Whyte, thinking the UK fans will love the matchup. If Turki Al-Sheikh joins, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Joshua-White 2 happens next. Joshua-White is the type of fight Hearn would probably go for.
A fight between AJ and Wyatt would be laughed at by the fans, who see both of them as completely washed up and unworthy of watching them now. Horribly out of shape, the overweight White, weighing in at 261 pounds, looked indescribably terrible in his last fight against journeyman Ebenezer Tete on December 15th. Dillian had a lot of trouble beating this guy, and it was sad to see how much ‘The Body Snatcher’ has faded at this late stage in his career.
White has lost two of his last six fights. He had a controversial win over Jermaine Franklin in 2022, meaning White’s record should be 3-3 in his last six fights. Franklin clearly beat him, but the judges gave the victory to the fighter on the A side, White. The fight was organized in London. Franklin is an American.
White says he also wants a rematch with Tyson Fury, who knocked him out in the sixth round three years ago on April 23, 2022, at Wembley Stadium. That rematch has no chance of happening. If the wealthy Fury does return, it won’t be to fight journeyman White.
White Dreaming
“(Joshua) Sounds perfect to me. They don’t have to ask me twice. They’re talking about me as an option, but they haven’t told me anything, so it’s just a negotiating tactic from them. But I’m ready to fight,” said Dillian White Ski Sports Boxing about being ready to fight Anthony Joshua next in a rematch.
“If he wants to fight, all they have to do is call me. I’m always up for fighting AJ – not a problem for me. However, I personally think that he is finished”, said Dilian. “I want to fight AJ and Tyson again because they both beat me.
Alexander Povetkin knocked out White in five rounds in 2020. A year later, Dilian avenged his loss by stopping Povetkin in the fourth round in March 2021. Povetkin was coming off a severe case of COVID, and many believe he should not have taken the fight under those conditions. Had it been a healthy Povetkin, Dilian would probably have been knocked out again.
10 years ago, Joshua stopped White in the eighth round on December 12, 2015. White was competitive in the first two rounds, then dropped and broke him. After the second round, it was not an interesting fight due to White’s tired appearance.
