Tommy Rees stays inside Cleveland.
The brown The tight ends coach and passing game specialist was promoted to offensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.
Rees, 32, will now be one of the youngest coordinators in the NFL.
Rees was linked to the New England Patriots as a new coach Mike Vrabel could contribute to the staff. The two worked together in 2024 with the Browns.
Vrabel told WEEI he has a long list of playcaller candidates which includes Josh McDanielsbut noted that he would not rush the process.
“No deadlines,” Vrabel said. “The same thing we talked about yesterday. We will not deal with timelines with injuries. Or, you know, we’re not going to deal with staffing and when it’s going to end.
“It is a long process. It’s one that, you know, is coming out in a few weeks. It could go on longer than that, right?β he continued. βIt’s always delicate when you have teams that continue to play in the playoffs, potentially the movement that could occur with coaches from other teams and related to their contracts. So it’s not as dry as, “Hey, these guys are going to come in tomorrow and we’re going to have a full staff.”
Rees has plenty of experience as a quarterback coach after holding the title when he was with Notre Dame from 2020 to 2022 and Alabama in 2023.
With Rees off the table, there’s still some a lot of assistants that could come in New England as the franchise looks to turn things around after three losing seasons.
