Tyson Fury announced his retirement on Instagram today, letting his followers know that he is ending his 16-year professional career. It was a predictably melodramatic move by Gypsy King after his second loss to Alexander Usyk on December 21st. I predicted this childish move. Man, I can read that guy like a book.
Fourie made a ton of money with his massive $160 million fortune. So if he’s serious and not doing this to lure Turki Al-Sheikh into paying him $100M+ for his next fight, he’s done well in his career.
Good Riddance
With limited talent, Fury took his win against a washed-up 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and transformed that win to amass a massive fortune. What a big crowd.
I wonder why Fury didn’t start whining during his retirement. That would be classic. I still can’t forget how he was on the verge of tears when interviewed after being booed after winning a controversial decision against ‘Big’ John McDermott in their first fight.
If this is a real retirement and not a fake one, I’d say cut loose and don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Fury. It’s nice to get rid of some weak fighters who have been given a high place by the naive mob that follows him.
Usyk proved that Fury is a fraud
Similarly Fagan from Oliver TwistFury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) looked absolutely awful in his recent loss to Usyk. He could not do anything in that fight and was reduced to retreating. All the instructions given to him by his benevolent trainer, SugarHill Steward, were completely ignored as he could not follow any of them. Fury was never one to follow instructions or adapt during fights. Not very listenable.
“I would like to announce that I am retiring from boxing.” It was right. I love every minute… See you on the other side,” said Tyson Fury Instagram in his retirement announcement today.
