Tyson Fury announced his retirement out of the pits… for about the 47th time. This time, he is retiring after back-to-back losses to Alexander Usyk. Yes, the same Fury who once said he would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime has decided to back off. Again. Maybe.
The 36-year-old heavyweight was outclassed by Usyk in their December rematch, but no one expected him to throw in the towel on his career yet. After all, he was retired before. And in retirement. Then retired again. Predicting Fury’s next move is like guessing the weather in Manchester — good luck.
Joshua vs. Fury? Not happening (supposedly)
Just last week, Anthony Joshua stirred the pot by saying that the Fury fight “had to happen” this year. Saudi boxing great Turki Alalshik has even hinted that the British blockbuster will become a reality. Wembley Stadium was reportedly booked, the fans were buzzing and boxing Twitter was in total meltdown.
But no. Fury took to social media with one of his cryptic messages:
“Hi everyone, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It was great, I loved every minute. I’ll end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everyone, see you on the other side.”
Dick Turpin? Mask? Is this a retirement speech or an audition for a historical drama?

A pension that never stays
Let’s face it, Fury’s pensions carry the weight of a featherweight boxer. Remember 2022? After defeating Dillian Whyte, he declared his retirement, only to return later that year to fight Derek Chisora. Even then he gave a dramatic speech:
“Every good dog has its day. As the great Roman leader said, there will always be someone else to fight. When is enough, enough?”
Apparently, “enough” lasts until the next big payday. So is this the end of Tyson Fury’s career? Maybe. But if history teaches us anything, we’ll see him back in the ring—probably with a new set of excuses and another cryptic Instagram post.
