Less than two days after the ball dropped in Times Square, so did he Bruins.
Boston outplayed the Rangers for most of the game Thursday. But the Bruins allowed two goals in just over three minutes in the first period and left Madison Square Garden disappointed.
Jonathan Quick’s 32 saves included some big ones as the veteran goaltender led New York to a 3-2 victory.

The Rangers had lost four straight and seven of eight coming into the game and were without injured star goaltender Igor Shesterkin. But they took advantage of a rough start by the Bruins and a strong one from Quick to take a 2-0 lead after the first period.
The Bruins thought they had a goal early in the second period, but the puck didn’t quite cross the line before Quick sank and put it away.
The Bruins finally settled Quick, with 12:03 left in the second. David Pastrnakwho had had a rough game prior to this point, threaded a beautiful pass to Elias Lindholm, who slotted it into the net from the right circle.
But the former UMass goaltender kept the Rangers ahead for two periods and got stoned Charlie McAvoy from short range with 5:27 remaining.
Jeremy Swayman made 25 saves for Boston (20-16-4).
