Shooting outside New York City nightclub leaves 10 wounded | US crime

Ten people were wounded in the shooting outside a New York at a downtown nightclub late Wednesday night while waiting for a private event, police said.

About fifteen people were standing outside the Amazura nightclub at 11.15 pm on Wednesday in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens City when they approached a group of 16 to 20-year-olds on foot.

Three or four people opened fire on the group, New York City police chief Philip Rivera said during a news conference early Thursday morning.

Police believe about 30 shots were fired before the gunmen fled on foot. They were then seen entering the saddle with the troops outside.

“There is no tolerance for these senseless shootings,” Rivera said.

Six women and four men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

A huge police presence and several walkouts outside Amazura could be seen in footage posted on social media.

The motive was not immediately known but Rivera said: “This is not terrorism.”
