Public virtual hearing set for discussion on new Springfield courthouse

SPRINGFIELD – A virtual public hearing on the location of a new Hampden County courthouse complex is scheduled just after the city rings in the New Year.

Mayor Domenic Sarno’s office released a public statement marking the Zoom meeting scheduled for January 2, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. The long-awaited project has moved at a snail’s pace since advocates of the Roderick Ireland Courthouse on State Street renewed an intense lobbying effort with accusations that the building’s environmental conditions were making people sick, until and all with deadly diseases.

State officials have never admitted that point, but Gov. Maura Healey in 2023 pledged $106 million in seed funding for new construction. The effort has recently been named the Springfield Regional Justice Center Project.
