Gervonta Davis fumed today when reminded that he has said in the past that he would fight Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haynie before retiring. Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) flatly denied saying that, and it looked like he was about to send the postage.

With the ‘Face of Boxing’ Tank revealing this week that he is retiring at the end of 2025 after three more fights, the media is putting him under fire, pressing him to answer WHEN he will fight Shakur and Hani. He closed that question very quickly.
Tanku’s eyes popped out when he was asked about the two, and he looked ready to explode. It was a good thing Devin and Stevenson weren’t in the room. From the way Davis reacted, you could tell he wasn’t playing. He will never fight those guys. Davis says he has three tackles left, but it’s unlikely any of them will earn him a pick next year.
“You said before you retired that you wanted to fight Devin and Shakur. Is that still the plan?” media member Tank Davis said today.
“I never said that.” When did I say that? But I sure would,” Gervonta said of his interest in fighting Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.
After the way Davis responded to the question, future reporters should avoid the subject. It’s like a third rail for Tank, who wants nothing to do with the two.
Of course, Stevenson was upset to see Gervonta’s reaction today when he saw that 2025 salary he was hoping for float away. Shakur would do well to give up hope for that fight because Tank doesn’t look like he’s kidding.
Promoter Eddie Hearn should take Tank’s name off the list as a potential opponent for Shakur next year. He said today that he wants William Zepeda for Stevenson after the Floyd Schofield fight on February 22. He hoped Gervonta would be Shakur’s third fight in 2025, but that doesn’t look promising.
Shakur Stevenson: “Every time my name comes up the boy gets very emotional, if it bothers you, take it out in the ring, gangster,” Shakur Stevenson said on Ksreacting to Gervonta Davis attacking a reporter when his name was mentioned at a press conference today “Tell (Gervonta) to fight me then.”
