Man dies after physical altercation with Haverhill police officers

A man died after Hahill’s police officers tried to prevent him from running to the fish market on Friday night.

The incident took place around 19:22 at Hahill, according to the Essex district prosecution.

Police received a call that a 43-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was “mistakenly behaving” at that time about 115 White St., a street with several shops and corner shops.

The person calling the police told the man that the man had fallen to the floor when he left the building, and then started running in the middle of White Street when he “hit a car with his head,” said the district’s lawyer.

He continued to run along the road and video surveillance images showed that the man “weaving and out” from traffic, as he was almost hit by several cars leading.

The man was “belligerent” towards the police officers when they reached the scene, the office said, and the authorities asked for an ambulance “to evaluate their well -being.”

However, the man tried to flee the officers to the seafood of Bradford, located at 124 Winter St.

The officers “sought to curb the individual for security purposes and for the security of the surrounding public,” said the district’s prosecutor’s office.

The man and the officers ended up in a physical struggle on the ground out of seafood from Bradford, according to the office.

“During this meeting, the men’s party did not respond, and the first ones who responded tried to help life,” said the district’s prosecution.

He was declared dead at the hospital after the EMS arrived at the scene and brought him with ambulance to help.

The incident is still investigated for detectives at the district’s prosecution, along with the Police Department of Hahill and the medical examiner’s office.
