Bob Dylan connection behind how Barenaked Ladies got their name


Rock Group The Barenaked Ladies has a very specific background for how they got their iconic name, which came to be during a rain of rain in a Bob Dylan concert

The ladies Barenaked and Bob Dylan Share an unexpected link, and it’s all The band’s name.

The Canadian rock groupwhich originated in 1988 in Scarborough, Ontario, was founded by the singers-guitars Ed Robertson and Steven Page, who were colleagues at the Churchill Heights Public School School School. They are better known for their success song “One Week”.

By 1990, the band expanded to include the Jim and Andy Creregan brothers below and keyboards/Congas, respectively, along with Tyler Stewart on drums. Andy left the band in 1995 and was replaced by multi -instrumentalist Kevin Hearn. The co -founder Steven Page left in 2009, leaving the band as four pieces.

In a 1992 interview with the Los Angeles Times, Steven explained how he and Ed met in a Bob Dylan concert in 1988. It was during this concert that the idea of the name of his band began to take shape and explained to the publication how this happened.

Page described the concert as “was terrible”, adding, “so boring that we sat there and talked about all these fake bands we would like to be and started finding dumb names for them. I don’t know which of us said” Barenaaked Ladies “but we laughed at the head. It’s something we would say when we were 9 or ten years old the mirror that.

The two formed an acoustic pop duo around the time of the Bob program. When a club concert landed, management asked what name to be used for promotion and shared the name they had joked during the performance of Minnesotan singer -songwriter.

After expanding to a five-member side, they launched a cassette entitled in 1991. This was the first independent version to get the Golden State in Canada.

The baenada ladies entered the Canadian current after signing with the Records of Reborn in 1992 and launched their debut album, Gordon.

The band gained fame in the United States with surrender of Brian Wilson and the Old Apartment of their 1996 live album, Rock Spectacle, and then their fourth studio album, Stunt, in 1998. Barenaked women are also recognized for creating and interpreting the thematic song for CBS police station, The Big Bang Theory.

The band continues to tour regularly and are currently on its last tour on Earth 2025. Ladies Barenaked have 17 studio albums, including 14 primary studio albums and three thematic study albums.

They have also launched three live albums and two larger compilations.
