Nashua, New Hampshire-Contecticut Husky Evan Menzel had twice to reach the base in the 27 games that appeared this summer, but a lonely one at the end of the first was all Nashua silver knights needed to beat Westfield Starfires 1-0, Wednesday at the Holman Stadium.
Starfires are now at 8-27-2 after mid-week game, while Silver Knights reach 20-17-0 with victory and victories in four of their last five games.
Nashua got the first and ran only at the bottom of the first after a single, on foot, and another single from Joey Current put the Silver Knights in front of 1-0.
Starfires won a runner in each of the first four inputs, but they had nothing to show for this, as the struggles hitting the runners at the base continued to this one. Menzel sang in the first, then reached the third after a past ball and a launch, but did not mark. The other three were unable to move beyond the first base, and the starfires were left out of the scoreboard.
Wheaton College Greg Strite got Starfires to enter and kept the Silver Knights endlessly, passing his best start to the season after finishing with 4 2/3, three -stroke and eight season tickets.
Westfield Bullpen, composed by Nathan Pirog by Keene State, William and Connor Jernigan de Mary, and Jasper Nadel by George Washington, followed him with a combination of 3 1/3 non-Run ball with twice, two walks and four attacks.
However, despite the strong launch performance, the starfires missed two more at the base, Menzel with their single in the sixth, and the josh path from the American International in the eighth. These were the only baserunners in the late Westfield game, and after three quick outings in the ninth, the starfires were closed for the second consecutive night.
Menzel was the Lone Starfire with various hits, while Griffin Mills of Northwestern, Riggs Catlin of the state of Worcester and Jimmy Chadwell in Columbia had three other base strokes.
Starfire launch staff allowed only five successes, a better team since June 21 with a loss in the Lake Monsters. It is only the third time and the first time in more than a month, as the starfires have allowed less than two races in a game, the last occurrence is in the Bullns field against the Silver Knights on June 4.
