Red Sox turn to new trade addition for save: ‘We trust the kid and he’s a good one’

Washington – the day Aroldis Chapman, closer, was named All-Star For the eighth time in their career, the Red Sox used someone else to close a narrow victory over the nationals.

As he did at different points this season, Manager Alex Cora chose to deploy Chapman in the eighth entry against a certain part of the Washington program and go elsewhere to save. This time, he was the newcomer Jordan Hicks, who made his third appearance since he arrived at Rafael Devers’s Blockbuster – which closed a 6-4 victory.

“We will use it in large lever situations,” said Cora. “We’ve done it three times. We trust the child and it’s good.”

With the Red SOX leader, 5-3, after Washington closed the gap in a seventh wild post by Justin Wilson and Greg Weissert, Cora chose to go to Chapman with the best nationals, James Wood, who reached the eighth. Wood Singled, but Chapman struggled to retire -he got twice in hand in only 13 throws. When the cane went to Hicks, the Red Sox led by three runs thanks to Ceddanne Rafaela insurance.

Wood was only 1 to 10 with a walk and a stroke in three games against Boston, but he has been one of the baseball stars this year, hitting .288 with 23 Homers, 67 RBIS and a .940 Ops in 90 games. The wood on his left hand came on Sunday with a pristine .911 Ops against Southpaw’s pitchers, but the Red Sox still heard Chapman a better game with Wood and the first base Nathaniel Lowe in the eighth.

Hicks walked to Brady House with an exit, then after a wild pitch, allowed a two -point RBI to Daylen Lile, which turned it into a game of two. CJ Abrams, who represented the delivery career, went to the left to end the game.

It was only Hicks’ second salvation in the last two seasons. His other arrived on August 19 of last season when the giants beat the White Sox.

“I love confidence,” Hicks said. “I know I’m able to see the belief in me, that’s all I could ask, really.”

The Red Sox improved up to 46-45 with their third consecutive victory.

“It’s a great team team,” Hicks said. “Only to be able to enter after Aroldis and doing the job, that’s all I can ask to be on a new team.”
