A Boston Police Department Sergeant appeared in court on Monday to face allegations of children’s rape.
Paul Downey, 58, by West Roxbury, was tried in the Dorchester Division of the Boston Municipal Court for aggravated rape of minor and other positions.
Downey has been the Boston Police Department since 1991 and has the range of sergeant, according to the department.
“These positions are obviously very worrying and our thoughts are with alleged victim [Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office] To carry out a thorough investigation. The officer was immediately administrative permission, “said Commissioner Michael Cox of Boston Police Department in a statement after the Downey Court appearance.
Downey faces a total of eight criminal counts, including four aggravated violation counts of a child, two payment counts for sexual behavior with a child under the age of 18 and two child care charges for commercial sexual activities, according to court files.
There was no invocation in Downey.
