A 300-year-old picture in Florence’s Uffizi Gallery is allegedly damaged after a visitor, while posing the photo with artwork.
Picture, the image of Tuscinae Prince Ferdinando de ‘medical painted by Anton Domenico Gabbiani in 1712, and after the visitor fell back while attempting “to make a meme” in front of her.
Security camera footage round about the Italian media on the weekend shows the visitor leaning on a falling in the picture with a Closeup to reveal a tear in the wall.
Uffizi to BBC and details are identified by police and reported to the judicial authorities.
Painting is removed for repairing, and to bear as part of – featuring about 150 18th century masterpieces by artists between Goya, Tienpolo and Canaletto – is closed up to 2 July, after which expected to back in the picture back in the display.
Museum’s Director, Simon Verde, said in the statement: “The question of visitors come to the museums to memes and take selfies for social media is alert.”
He said uffizi is considering imposing restrictions in the visitor of the behavior: “We will set up very precise limits, lest behavior is not compatible with the sense of our institutions and as to the cultural heritage.”
In a similar incident before this month: Tourstors damaged in artwork to Palazzo Maffei In the Certificate while attempting to pose the photo with it. The artwork – a crystal-inctrusted chair from the artist Nicola Bolla – “broken before their eyes”, Museum said in the statement.
“It was ridiculous – if not actually done. A museum’s worst nightmare nightmare,” Museum’s director, Carlon, said at the time. “Sometimes we lose our brains in the image and I don’t think about the consequences.”
