But after eliminating the newsstands last year, police found that there was a significant fall in the crime. Shrewsbury police chief Lisa Vargas said that it was common for people to be dirty items that had not scanned and paid.
From January to May last year, Shrewsbury Police Department responded to 509 Walmart calls. This year, this year, they responded to only 183 of the retailer.
And in terms of arrests, the department made 108 in Walmart last year. However, this year they have just done 49.
