Was not taken Bruise Interim coach Joe Sacco Long to land at his feet.
Although Sacco wanted to be behind the Boston bench with a main coaching capacity, The Bruins chose to hire Marco Sturm for their vacancy. Sacco clearly had a backup plan ready.
Shortly after this news, Athletics reported Mike Sullivan, winner of the Stanley Cup twice, hires Sacco as an assistant to the Rangers. Sacco will help Sullivan with David Quinn and Ty Hennes in his new staff in New York.
At the Boston season’s press conference, CEO, Don Sweeney, said that Sacco would be a finalist for the opening of Bruins, regardless of how the rest of the search happened.
“It will be part of the final group of coaches we put on, because I think he has won and deserved it,” said Sweeney. “Joe, when he took the first 20 games, did a really good job.”
After firing from Jim Montgomery in mid -November, Sacco was raised to the role of temporary coach. It happened on 24-30-6 in its 60 games behind the bench, but the Bruins celebrated a sale of fire in the commercial term that caused the trade of four key players, including the captain of the Brad Marchand team. The list was bewildering.
Sacco will now train under Sullivan, who won a couple of Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Sullivan left the penguins this season drops after a decade in Pittsburgh and landed with the Rangers.
