Boston hired Marco Sturm as the new coach of the organization. Sturm played the Bruins for five seasons after the Bruins was purchased in a trade he sent Joe Thornton to Saint Joseph’s sharks in 2005.
Sturm played Hero for Boston in 2010 when he scored the game’s winning goal in the first appearance of Winter Classic de Bruins at Fenway Park.
Sturm takes charge for Joe Saccowhich he served as a temporary coach of Boston after Jim Montgomery was fired in November. The Bruins interviewed several candidates included Jay Woodcroft, Jay leachMitch Love and Sacco.
The young man, 46, inherits a team that spent 33-39-10 in a disappointing 2024-25 season who saw the Bruins trade Charlie Coyle, Brandon Carlo and his captain, Brad Marchand.
Although this is Sturm’s NHL’s coaching work, his resume includes international experience, including leading the German national team at a silver medal at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics. The team spent 119-80-11-6 during their term and made three consecutive appearances of Playoff.
Before that, Sturm spent time as an assistant with the kings of Los Angeles.
