Southwick: Better late than ever.
Southwick, regional, has gathered from a set to defeat South High Community School in four sets in a Massachusetts Round Division II of 32 boys’ volleyball games on Thursday evening, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18.
“We didn’t really warm up … and we were feeding on the other’s negative energy,” said Southwick Junior, outside the Nicolas Spina beat, who ended with 27 killings and 13 excavations.
It occurred by two first deaths and two first blocks of the Senior Ismael Carrion, South High (11-5) passed through 11-0 to achieve a marker of 18-11 in the initial set.
Southwick (15-5) made a strong push to overcome the south, closing the gap throughout the set with several slaughter. Two consecutive solid plays on the River Thompson network (Nine Kills, 13 excavations, two donkeys, ½ block) turned it into a game of a point, 24-23, but the senior Coddan Nguyen landed a slaughter to secure the whole visitors.
Southwick moved to the second set. Spina pushed her team with three slaughter and an ace during a six -point stretch. Later on the set, Spina made a critical critique of giving the bouquets a two-point advantage, 21-19. Broke the slaughter on the back to win the frame.
Southwick turned the tables to South High in the third set, going through 7-0 to take control of the game. Kills of Spina and Thompson, a Zachariah Frailey Ace, and two blocks of bouquets helped the host team to have a 13-7 advantage.
South High was three points behind a draw, 17-14, but it is near, as the visitors would reach the set. Southwick closed the set with three straight points: a kill each of Daniel Methe and Spina, and a bug error by the opposition.
Southwick opened the fourth and last set with a 4-0, highlighted by a Phong Traran ace (44 assists, eight excavations, four aces, two killings, blocking) and a thorn. The bouquets took control of the party by opening a 14-4 advantage. Two Methe and one of Thompson, a thorn kill and blog, and a Thompson As contributed to the advantage of ten points.
Spina handed three shots for three of Southwick’s last six points to seal the victory. Rams Senior Libero Max Salvador made 16 excavations.
According to Spina, the party really won when “there was constructive criticism. The boys began to say -where we have to be and how we can build each other.”
“It’s a mental game,” Spina said. “We [decided] We were just going to play the way we know we can play. “”
Southwick Boys volleyball coach Kaitlyn Anthony applauded his players to gather -and make the necessary adjustments to change the game in favor.
“I am happy that we can find the ability to return when we are low at the beginning or if we have this hard time,” said coach Anthony. “There was a lot of real collisions. We were not normal. Our setter also had a hard start. I think we were struggling to find that place where our beaters needed it. The tensions came a bit high … but I think we showed that we can move on.”
Southwick advances to face the winner of Marlborough number 6 (17-2) -No. 27 Campus of the University (11-5) in the round of 16.
