The man died after entering sea in Lincolnshire to help two children.
Lincolnshire Police revealed that 60-year-old man entered the sea in Ingoldmells After seeing two children who appeared in trouble after 16 hours on Sunday near the promenade.
They said in the statement: “The 60-year-old man died sadly after entering the water to help two children who appeared in trouble.
“The man allegedly entered the sea only after 16 hours today (May 25) near the promenade in Ingoldmells, he entered the difficulty and sadly died at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with man’s family and loved in this very sad time.”
Police did not publish further information about the identity of man or status of two children who believed to be trying to help.
Earlier that day, officials warned tourists and locals to avoid the promenade ingoldmells “due to a serious incident in water.
“Multiple Emergency services on stage involving police / ambulance / hm coast / rnli & 2x Air ambulanceon the scene. “
RNLI confirmed that they launched the Skegnes rescue boat during the incident. It is understood that the coast and the air clinic was in attendance. Independent has contacted LINCS and Notts Air Himbulance Service for comment.
