The MBTA calls on the city officials to rapid expansion of the Foxborough Gillette Stadium Railway Stadium to accommodate the crowds planned at seven o’clock FIFA World Cup Football games in June 2026.
The proposed expansion is to replace an existing train lifter next to the railway track stadium with a new 800 -foot concrete platform in length, designed to house a locomotive that threw eight passenger coaches.
A second temporary platform would be erected on the opposite side of the slopes, just behind a city -owned water pumping installation at the end of Ashcroft Lane, in Foxborough.

According to Tess Paganelli, director of environmental review and allowing this platform to be restored, only 600 feet long, after the World Cup matches.
During an audience on Monday night before the city’s conservation commission, Paganelli said that the new platforms raised would accelerate the loading and out -of -load process, as passengers could go on the platform without climbing on the train stairs to reach the ground level.
In addition, the recent upgrade on the slopes parallel to the place of the station allows two trains to be downloaded simultaneously.
Those who seek to leave or return to the trains next to Ashcroft Lane will have to cross the slopes in a pedestrian crossing that will customize the security staff during the World Cup matches.
Characterizing the proposed calendar as an extremely tight, Paganelli admitted that the MBTA still contemplates how to program the construction while minimizing the impacts on the New England Patriot Home games and other stadium events: Adding the temporary platform will probably be installed first.
“We have been working very hard trying to find a solution that would be as simple as possible to build,” he said. “I look forward to asking understanding the pressure we are to deliver.”
Paganelli was accompanied by experts in land development and wetlands in Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB), a national engineering company with four offices in the state of the bay.
According to Brittany Gesner, a civil engineer with VHB who oversees project planning, the existing station was built in the mid -1990’s and has been used since then for day trains, with the daily railway service in 2023.
Gesner also emphasized the need for speed to allow and build the proposed improvements.
“It is approaching every day,” he said The first match of the World Cup, scheduled for June 13, 2026.
Although Gillette Stadium was mainly designed taking into account cars, Gesner said that the basis of fan international for World Cup matches would probably favor extended public traffic options.
“In order for this to be a successful event here in Foxborough, we really have to increase the number of people we can get and move away from the stage quickly, effectively and safely with the train station,” he said.
