Kansas City, Mo. – On Saturday there was a family face in the Red Sox Dugout as Red Sox Dustin PedroiaFor the second consecutive day, he was around the team before they face the Royals. It turns out that the visit was not a coincidence.
Pedroia, his wife, Kelli and the three children of the couple live in Arizona, who is not near Kansas City. So why were two direct Red SOX games in the middle of the country? It turns out that the trip was intentional.
“He called me last week,” said manager Alex Cora. “They had the weekend out of sports. It was like:” Do you want me to go to Kansas City? “I liked:” It depends on you. Came here with the boys.
Pedroia has not played any official role with the Red Sox since he officially retired in February 2021, but has made a couple of cameos in Spring Training and was in Boston last summer when he was elected at the Red Sox Fame Hall. Cora, an intimate friend and ex -Pedroia team, said that there is an open invitation to be around the club at any time. Pedroia has left basketball again to try to train his children, who are 11, 12 and 15 years old.
Pedroia saw a date open to his schedule and chose to go to a couple of Red Sox games to be around the team. But there was another reason for the meeting. Pedroia’s first agent as a professional was Bobby Witt, the father of the Royals Superstar, Bobby Witt Jr., and Pedroia remembers being around the young Witt when he was just a child. It was a time of full circle to come to Kansas City and to reconnect with the reigning runner-up in the American MVP league.
“I wanted to see the Red Sox, but they also wanted to meet Witt,” said Cora. “It’s good for children. Children know what’s happening. They know good players and bad guidance.”
While I was with the club, Pedroia said, took a shake practice and hit a line line in the other way. He was also offered to play a “flip” game with players and coaches, but after joking that he would get a day contract if the team officers saw him again with a glove, he invited one of his children to join the team’s game. Pedroia’s experience was in full effect.
“Just being around us, it means a lot to them and obviously having it is always great,” Cora said.
