A former city councilor in the city of Cambridge faces charges of what police describe as a drug fueled incident during which a woman closed in a hotel bath last month.
Cambridge resident Nadeem Mazen, 41, has been accused of abduction, aggression and battery, intimidation of a witness and malicious destruction of property, according to court records. Mazen, who served as Counselor of the City of Cambridge from 2014 to 2017, “categorically denies allegations,” said his lawyer, Zachary Barry, in a statement on Tuesday.
“Mr. Mazen is still confident that a just legal process will lead to his exemption,” says the statement.
What Mazen told the police
The officers responded to the Holiday Inn Express on Route 28 in Cambridge shortly after 2 pm on April 16, according to a police report. At the scene, the hotel staff headed them to Mazen, who said he had climbed on a fence to an area with an electric transformer that was out of bounds for the public.
The officers realized that Mazen had a cut in his bleeding hand, according to the report. In addition, the shirt collet and the pants began.
“Mazen was breathless, carefree, foaming in the mouth and very paranoid. While the officers spoke with Mazen, he could not stand and moved,” says the report.
When asked about the cut of his hand, Mazen told the officers that the woman involved in the incident had launched her glass and broke a hotel room window, according to the report. He also told the officers that the woman was carrying drugs at the hotel and that she was “secretly recording”, which made her paranoid.
What the victim told to the police
Police entered the Holiday Inn to talk to the woman, who told them that Mazen had invited him to his hotel room to “come and relax”, according to the report. The woman said that when she arrived in the hotel room, she discovered that Mazen was “very high” in ketamine and cocaine, but did not participate.
The woman told the police that she was a model and that Mazen initially helped her request a virtual casting call, according to the report. Finally, the drugs he had taken were so paranoid that he convinced himself that he had a secret camera and recorded him, he said.
The woman told the police to ask Mazen to “let him go” because he was “being strange”, but he responded by grabbing his cellphone, pushing him in the hotel bath and closed with him, according to the report. For a while, he blocked the door to prevent it from leaving, but finally managed to get out of the bathroom, he said.
The woman told the police that he later told Mazen to give him his cellphone and threatened to call the police if he did not, according to the report. She wanted to talk about things, but she did not, and instead, she just wanted her cellphone to return.
The woman told the officers that he later searched for the room’s fixed line to call the police, but Mazen responded by grabbing his phone and throwing it out of the hotel’s room window, making the window broken, according to the report. He then tried to block the hotel’s room door to prevent the reception and call the police, but finally managed to pass -and make the hotel staff call 911, he said.
The woman said she was not injured during the incident, according to the report. He also told the officers that he had known Mazen for about two years and that he had not seen him “acting in this way before.”
Arrest, hospitalization and complaint of Mazen
Outside the hotel, Mazen was still “very hectic”, and the officers had to “follow their hands” to put it in handles, according to the report. He told the police that he did not want to go to a hospital, but they decided to engage it involuntarily at Cambridge Hospital.
“ Mazen began to foam even further in his mouth throughout the interaction. Mazen had to be physically placed on the stretcher because he refused to cooperate with us, shouted and shouted, he continued to try to move away from the officers and move away from the bunk. He says.
The paramedics ended with Mazen, and was taken to the hospital, according to the report. The officer who wrote the report stated that he had reviewed the images of the camera of the body of the incident before writing.
Mazen was tried the following day in the Cambridge district court and was found guilty of the charges, according to court records. The judge released him with a deposit of personal recognition under condition, including that he abstained from drug or alcohol consumption, underwent mental health screening or drug abuse and has no contact with the victim.
Mazen will return to court on June 25 for a pretending audience.
