Blues score 3 goals in 2:13 of the second period to beat the Jets 5-2 and force a game 7
By David Solomon Associated Press
St. Louis (AP) -Cam Fowler, Brayden Schenn and Nathan Walker scored in a period of 2:13 of the second period and St. Louis Blues defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 on Friday night to force a game 7 in the first round.
Philip Broberg had a goal and attendance, Alexey Toropchenko also scored and Jordan Binnington made 21 savings for St. Louis, who will return to Winnipeg for the decisive game Sunday night.
Cole Perfetti and Nino Niderreiter scored Winnipeg, and Connor Hellebuyck made 18 savings before being thrown after the second period for Eric Comrie, who made four savings. Hellebuyck is 0-7, while at least four goals is allowed in each of its last seven playoffs on the road.
“This night was not Connor,” said Scott Arniel, Jets coach. “Tonight we were implanted in front of him, and so now is a game clash.”
Perfetti scored his first goal of the playoffs in a power play 5:43 in the second period to tie the score 1-1.
Walker again advanced to St. Louis with his third of the series with 8:26 remaining in the period, and Schenn won his second in the post-season 53 seconds later to get 3-1.
Fowler scored his second goal of the playoffs with 6:20 remaining in the second period to give to St. Louis a three -goal lead. Fowler has a point in the six games of the series, and its ten points are the most in a series for a defender of the history of the franchise.
Toropchenko headed the period of four goals from Sant Lluís with 3:03 in the second.
“We just had to control the impulse,” Walker said. “I think after they achieved that goal of power play, we were a little flat and then we went out, took the impulse and only ran with him.”
The home team has won each of the first six games of this series.
Broberg scored his first goal from the playoffs on the first shot of the blues in the 6:05 game goal in the first period to put in St. Louis ahead for 1-0.
“I thought it was a great play from Faulk to drive and this is the speed we are talking about, and then we made people go and get off to Upper and beat this time,” said Jim Montgomery, a blues coach. “It was really important because I didn’t like the start of the first 8-10 minutes, and then we started coming after this goal.”
Arniel called a time waiting immediately after the target, but chose not to challenge the game for goalkeepers, as Pavel Buchnevich had been pushed to the pen by Dylan Samberg.
Morgan Barron seemed to score the goal of the tie 29 seconds in the second period. However, the goal was annulled after St. Louis challenged the move when officials ruled that Mason Appleton had entered the Blues area before Barron carried the shit.
Nikolaj Ehlers returned to the program after losing the last two games of the regular Winnipeg season and the first five playoffs games with a right foot injury.
