Dire Strait was formed in 1977 and has been there for decades, but fans only find out what inspired the quartet to name its band as such
The band adopted the name of Dire Straits because, at first, they were truly in a strait Stret – and the name was hooked.

“On that day of 1977, Dire Straits had his first concert as a band at a punk festival in Deppord. At the time they played with the name of the old Mark band, The Café Racers,” shared 75 -year -old Knopfler.
This name did not suit the band when they started, so they returned to the drawing box. Finally, they arrived at Straits Dire.
The phrase “A Straits Dire” is commonly used to describe someone in a link, to face a type of financial difficulty or other difficulties, struck an agreement with the expanding band, which at that time was financially struggling. “Given that they were broken,” the publication revealed, “a friend suggested the name of Dire Straits and the rest is history!”

Luckily, the boys did not spend their entire career in a tight place. When they stormed the scene in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, they selled more than 100 million records worldwide, gaining a place among the best-selling artists in the world.
Its stunning discography includes six studio albums, five live albums, three compilation albums, four extensive plays, 31 singles and 15 music videos. His album Brothers in Arms stands out as a particular triumph, with more than 30 million copies sold.
Throughout his career, which finally completed in 1995, they accumulated several Grammy awards, numerous recognitions, album certifications and even a place coveted in the Rock and Roll Fame Hall.
After the division, Knopfler began on a solo trip and has since sold about 120 million loved records worldwide, counting both his individual work and the tunes he made with the band.
He has launched a series of solo albums and film soundtracks, including the recent River One Deep in 2024, which, according to Forbes, changed 8,284 copies in his opening week and 9,023 equivalent units. The album also won the number 2 place on the UK album graph, official graphics. Despite meeting offers, Knopfler has made it clear that he has no intention of joining the band again.
